State of Decay 2 Support Ending to Focus on Upcoming State of Decay 3

Undead Labs has announced that they will be ending support for their 2018 zombie survival game, State of Decay 2, later this year. This decision comes as the studio gears up for the highly anticipated release of State of Decay 3.

The developers have confirmed that Update 38 will be the final content update for State of Decay 2. This update promises to address “longstanding issues” and introduce quality-of-life improvements for players. It will also feature seasonal content that will be permanently unlocked in the game world after the update is released.

While support for State of Decay 2 is ending, Undead Labs has assured fans that the game will not be taken offline. It will remain playable with all released content, modes, and improvements, and will continue to be available on Xbox Game Pass. Bounties will also continue to automatically cycle.

The studio emphasized that the decision to end support is not about taking the game down, but rather about shifting their focus and resources to the development of State of Decay 3. “We’re excited to devote ourselves to making the next game even better,” the developers stated.

State of Decay 3 was initially announced in 2020, but details have been scarce until this year. A new three-minute cinematic trailer debuted during the Xbox Games Showcase, offering a glimpse into the game’s world, but revealing little about the changes and innovations Undead Labs have been working on. The developers have promised to provide more information about the game “at a later time,” leaving fans eagerly awaiting further updates.
