The Staten Island FerryHawks have acquired three former Major League players and a local Tottenville HS star to reinforce their lineup for the upcoming season. Former big leaguers Taylor Motter, Jeison Guzman, and Joe Dunand, who is the nephew of former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, bring a wealth of experience to the Atlantic League franchise. Motter, a 34-year-old utility man, has spent parts of six MLB seasons with various teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, and Seattle Mariners. He is a career .188 hitter with 10 homers and 40 RBI in 188 MLB games. Guzman, a 25-year-old infielder/outfielder, has spent seven seasons in the Minors with the Kansas City Royals organization, hitting .245 with 29 homers, 197 RBI, and 68 steals. Dunand, A-Rod’s 28-year-old nephew, made his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins in 2022, going 3-for-10 with a home run. He has spent six seasons in the minors with the Marlins and Atlanta Braves organizations, hitting .238 with 51 homers and 224 RBI. Rounding out the quartet is Gus Sosa, a 22-year-old catcher/corner infielder and Great Kills resident who attended Moore and Tottenville high schools. A two-time draftee, Sosa was most recently selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 10th round of the 2022 draft. He spent the 2023 season in Rookie ball with the Phillies.
