A Staten Island man is facing felony charges after allegedly swinging a knife at police officers who came to arrest him last month. Marcelino Allende, 31, of St. George, was arraigned on April 10 in state Supreme Court, St. George, on charges stemming from the March 25 incident. According to the criminal complaint, members of the warrant squad had shown up at his door, identifying themselves and notifying him he was under arrest in connection with a prior assault. Allende opened his door, armed with a knife, and started swinging. One officer discharged a taser, but it was ineffective. Then, another officer discharged one round from his firearm, causing no injuries. Allende, who is listed in jail records as standing 5 feet, 10 inches, and weighing 195 pounds, is facing felony charges in the case including criminal possession of a weapon, menacing an officer, and resisting arrest. Justice Lisa Grey ordered he be held on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond at 10%. Defense attorney Matthew Zuntag declined to comment. The proceedings have been adjourned to May 8th. In early March, Allende was arrested by members of the NYPD’s Transit Division in Midtown Manhattan on misdemeanor charges, for allegedly possessing drugs and a knife with a blade more than 4 inches long. A Manhattan Criminal Court judge granted him release on non-monetary conditions, including that he not be arrested again. It was about two weeks later when prosecutors say he assaulted someone on Staten Island, in that he allegedly struck the person with a mop handle in the head and body.
