Staycity Group, a prominent aparthotel operator in Europe, has recently acquired a property near Nine Elms Station in London SW8, not far from the beautifully renovated Battersea Power Station. The site, a former three-story office block previously owned by Unite Students, was purchased for an undisclosed amount. In partnership with Citygrove, who will manage the initial planning and construction phases, Staycity plans to develop a 177-apartment Wilde Aparthotel. The development, valued at £70 million, will seek funding post-planning approval, with Staycity taking an operational leaseback arrangement. Construction is slated to start in 2026 and finish in the latter half of 2027. Unite was represented by CRBE, whereas Staycity and Citygrove did not have representation.
Neil Short, Staycity Group’s development director for London, said: “The Nine Elms/ Battersea area has been on Staycity’s target radar following the announcement of the Northern line extension. Since the prestigious redevelopment of Battersea Power Station was completed, attracting the relocation of the US embassy and Apple’s European headquarters, it has become one of the most vibrant and active areas of London. We’re excited to be playing a part in its growth story.”
The Wilde Aparthotel will feature a variety of chic studios and one-bedroom apartments, accommodating up to four guests. These self-catering units will boast fully-equipped kitchens with high-end appliances and a contemporary design enriched with whimsical elements inspired by Irish playwright Oscar Wilde. Amenities will include a laundry room, round-the-clock reception, a versatile lounge for eating, meeting, or working, alongside a café, pantry, gym, and bar.
Staycity Group currently manages six Wilde Aparthotels located in Berlin, Edinburgh, Manchester, and three in London at Aldgate, Covent Garden, and Paddington. Positioned near city centers and major tourist spots, these properties are favored by both leisure and business travelers. New Wilde locations are scheduled to open in Cambridge, Lisbon, Munich, Porto, and two additional sites in London.
