Steelers Gain Cap Space with Alex Highsmith Contract Adjustment

The Pittsburgh Steelers have adjusted the contract of edge rusher Alex Highsmith to create additional salary cap space ahead of the NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday night. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, a portion of Highsmith’s $10.733 million base salary for the upcoming season has been converted into a signing bonus. This maneuver has generated over $7 million in cap room for the Steelers, providing them with increased financial flexibility for the remainder of the offseason.

Highsmith signed a four-year contract extension with the Steelers last year and is under contract through the 2027 season. In the previous season, he recorded 57 tackles, seven sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. The Steelers will be able to use the additional cap space to address other roster needs or make strategic moves in the draft, as they aim to build a competitive team for the upcoming campaign.
