Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is taking action to address a potential safety concern affecting over 33,000 Ram 1500 trucks in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall on Wednesday, citing a potential issue with the front wheel hub encoder rings. These rings are crucial components of the electronic stability control system, which helps maintain vehicle stability and prevent loss of control.
The recall specifically targets 2025 model year Ram 1500 vehicles. The issue arises when the front wheel hub encoder rings become damaged, which could disable the electronic stability control system. This failure can lead to a sudden and unexpected loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
To address this issue, Stellantis dealerships will inspect and replace the front wheel bearing hub assembly as necessary, free of charge to vehicle owners. This recall marks the third time this month that Stellantis has issued a recall involving a large number of Ram 1500 trucks. Earlier this month, the company recalled over 31,000 Ram 1500 Classic trucks due to concerns about mirror glass detaching from the driver’s side heated trailer tow rearview mirror. In early October, Stellantis also recalled over 129,000 Ram 1500 vehicles due to a malfunctioning turn signal self-canceling feature.
This recall highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and the proactive steps taken by automakers to address potential safety concerns. It also underscores the critical role of the NHTSA in overseeing vehicle safety and ensuring the well-being of consumers on the road.
