In the wake of their impressive win against CSK, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul has elucidated the rationale behind their tactical decision to elevate Marcus Stoinis to the number three batting position. Stoinis, who typically bats at number five, played a crucial role in LSG’s victory, scoring an unbeaten 124 and guiding his team to a six-wicket triumph.
Speaking after the match, Rahul emphasized the need for a more aggressive approach during the powerplay overs. He believes that T20 cricket has evolved in recent years, necessitating a more assertive batting strategy. Rahul stated, “We felt like we needed to be braver and capitalize the powerplay and needed 1 power-hitter in the top-3. I’ve realized that T20 cricket has changed in the past couple of years, 170-180 doesn’t always cut it. You need to go harder in the powerplay and the impact player rule also gives you a bit more depth.”
Rahul acknowledged Stoinis’ exceptional performance, commending his intelligent batting throughout the innings. He said, “Full credit to Stoinis. It was not just power hitting, it was very clever batting. He picked his bowlers and played very well.” Rahul also mentioned that the rest of the batting order, excluding the openers, would retain flexibility, allowing the team to adapt to different match situations.
This victory propelled LSG to fourth place in the points table, and they will next face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Lucknow on April 27.
