Marcus Stoinis etched his name in IPL history with a record-breaking chase, guiding Lucknow Super Giants to a stunning victory over Chennai Super Kings at the fortress-like Chepauk Stadium. The Australian all-rounder produced an astonishing knock of 124 off just 63 balls, becoming the highest individual scorer in an IPL chase.
Chasing a daunting target of 210, LSG looked down and out at one point, having lost their top three wickets within the first 11 overs. However, Stoinis stepped up to the plate, steadied the ship, and formed crucial partnerships with Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda.
Pooran’s quickfire 70 off 34 balls gave LSG a glimmer of hope, and Stoinis took over from there. He ruthlessly targeted bowlers, smashing two sixes off Mustafizur Rahman in the 18th over to bring the equation down to a manageable 32 from 12.
Earlier, it was Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube who set the stage for CSK with a blistering 104-run stand off just 47 balls. Dube kicked off the mayhem with a hattrick of sixes, followed by seven more maximums during his explosive knock. Gaikwad, at the other end, held the innings together, reaching his second IPL hundred off just 56 balls.
However, Stoinis’ late onslaught proved too much for CSK to handle. The Australian’s record-breaking knock, coupled with Pooran and Hooda’s contributions, propelled LSG to a famous victory, breaching the once-unshakeable fortress of Chennai Super Kings.
