Stranger Things: The First Shadow is Coming to Broadway in 2025

Get ready to dive deeper into the world of Stranger Things as the highly anticipated prequel play, ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow,’ is set to hit Broadway in 2025. The play, which debuted to critical acclaim in London’s West End, will begin previews at the Marquis Theatre on March 28, 2025, with its official opening on April 22, 2025.

‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ takes us back to 1959, before the events of the beloved Netflix series, and focuses on the arrival of young Henry Creel and his family in Hawkins, Indiana. We’ll witness Henry’s struggle to fit in as his telekinetic abilities make it difficult to blend in with the ordinary kids. This eventually leads him to Hawkins National Laboratory, where he transforms into 001, the formidable villain Vecna we know from season 4 of the show.

The play not only showcases the origins of Vecna but also features younger versions of beloved characters such as Jim Hopper, Bob Newby, and Joyce Maldonado. The cast for the Broadway production will be announced at a later date.

For fans who can’t wait for the Broadway premiere, a trailer has already been released. Written by Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry, based on an original idea by Trefry, Jack Thorne, and the Duffer Brothers, the play is directed by Stephen Daldry, alongside co-director Justin Martin.

‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ has already won over audiences and critics in London, garnering two 2024 Olivier Awards for Best Entertainment Play and Best Set Design. The play’s original run was scheduled to end in December 2024, but due to its popularity, it was extended to February 16, 2025.
