Stree 2: Advance Bookings Suggest a Monster Opening for the Horror-Comedy

The much-awaited sequel to the 2018 blockbuster ‘Stree’, titled ‘Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank’, is all set to hit the screens on August 15th, coinciding with India’s Independence Day. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik, brings back the original cast of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, promising a continuation of the hilarious and spine-chilling experience.

The film’s release date, a public holiday, is expected to work in its favor, attracting a larger audience. ‘Stree 2’ has already generated significant buzz with Tamannaah Bhatia’s special appearance in the promotional song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’. Reports suggest that Tamannaah also plays a key role in the film. Adding to the excitement, cameo appearances by Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar are set to add a dash of star power.

The anticipation surrounding ‘Stree 2’ is evident in the impressive advance bookings. According to Sacnilk, the film has already minted ₹11.37 crore by selling over 3.8 lakh tickets. This figure reaches ₹13.31 crore when block seat numbers are included. With nearly 10,000 shows available across India, the film is poised for a massive opening weekend.

Maharashtra leads the advance booking race with ₹2.92 crore, followed by Delhi (₹2.91 crore), Uttar Pradesh (₹1.35 crore), and West Bengal (₹1.22 crore). Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan have also recorded significant advance bookings, suggesting strong interest nationwide.

The storyline of ‘Stree 2’ revolves around a headless creature called ‘Sarkate’ that abducts women in Chanderi, the village introduced in the first film. The main characters from the original film join forces with Shraddha to stop the menacing monster.

According to Bollywood Hungama, ‘Stree 2’ has received a U/A certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This means that children under 12 should watch the film with parental guidance. The film is projected to earn a whopping ₹40 crore on its release day, potentially surpassing ‘Fighter’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, to claim the biggest opening of 2024. With a star-studded cast, a compelling plot, and a holiday release, ‘Stree 2’ is poised to become a box office sensation.
