The supernatural-horror film ‘Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank,’ directed by Amar Kaushik, is setting the box office on fire. Starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Tamannaah Bhatia, the film has witnessed a remarkable 40.13% increase in its collection on Saturday, August 19th, as compared to Friday’s numbers, earning a gross of ₹ 44 crore.
‘Stree 2’ made history by delivering the biggest Box Office opening with a female lead. Released on India’s Independence Day, the film grossed a whopping ₹ 51.8 crore on its opening day, despite competing with two other releases – ‘Vedaa’ and ‘Khel Khel Mein’. The film’s success is attributed to its captivating storyline, stellar performances, and a strong marketing campaign that has resonated with audiences.
This sequel to the successful horror-comedy franchise has garnered immense attention. It has achieved the biggest and widest overseas release, screening at over 1,600 screens across 75 countries. The film, which features a cameo appearance by Akshay Kumar, has been praised by critics and audiences alike. ‘Stree 2’ was made on a budget of ₹ 50 crore and has already generated a business of ₹ 135.7 crore net in the domestic market. The film has also collected ₹ 15 crore gross in the overseas market, further solidifying its international appeal.
Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), declared ‘Stree 2’ a ‘blockbuster’. He highlighted the film’s strong Saturday performance, indicating a growth of approximately 20% over Friday. He predicted that the film’s Day 3 business would reach ₹ 36-38 crore, with potential for further growth based on strong night show bookings. This would take the total three-day collection to around ₹ 130-133 crore net.
The film is expected to continue its successful run over the extended weekend due to the Rakshabandhan festival. Kadel anticipates that ‘Stree 2’ could earn between ₹ 175-185 crore over the festival period. With its captivating story, engaging performances, and widespread appeal, ‘Stree 2’ is poised to become a massive box office success.
