Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra has defended his appearance on fellow filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s podcast, where they discussed politics and Agnihotri’s film, “The Kashmir Files.” After facing criticism for attending the podcast, Mishra clarified that he did not endorse Agnihotri’s views but rather wanted to engage in dialogue.
Speaking to a media outlet, Mishra said, “People called me out for appearing on Vivek Agnihotri’s podcast. He is like my brother. His opinion could be anything, it could be wrong, but my opinion is also different. What makes it wrong… I didn’t go on his podcast to agree with him. If you don’t talk and discuss, then it’ll become a mess.”
Mishra’s appearance on Agnihotri’s podcast last year followed a viral tweet in which he criticized liberals for their reactions to “The Kashmir Files.” In the tweet, Mishra argued that while liberals complained about the film, they failed to support alternative perspectives.
During the podcast, the filmmakers discussed various topics, including “The Kashmir Files” and its reception. Mishra attempted to convey the concerns raised by critics, emphasizing the importance of avoiding bias in storytelling.
Mishra’s own film, “Afwaah,” faced limited distribution and underperformed at the box office. The filmmaker has expressed frustration over the lack of support for his work.
Mishra’s defense of his appearance on Agnihotri’s podcast highlights the importance of open dialogue and respectful discourse, even when viewpoints differ.
