Suits Spinoff ‘Suits: LA’ Officially Gets Series Order From NBC

Get ready for another round of courtroom drama, as a new iteration of the beloved legal series ‘Suits’ is officially heading to network television. On Friday, NBC gave a series order to ‘Suits: LA,’ a spinoff of the USA Network legal drama that captivated audiences during the 2010s.

The pilot episode, which was ordered in February 2024, was filmed later that spring. However, NBC has not yet announced a premiere date for the new series. ‘Suits: LA’ stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, a former New York federal prosecutor who now runs a firm in Los Angeles. According to NBC’s logline, Ted finds himself at a crossroads, forced to embrace a role he has long held in contempt in order to save his firm. He’s surrounded by a group of talented lawyers who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other, while navigating the complexities of their personal and professional lives.

Besides Amell, ‘Suits: LA’ features a talented ensemble cast, including Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg, and Troy Winbush. The spinoff is created by Aaron Korsh, the mastermind behind the original ‘Suits,’ and he serves as executive producer alongside David Bartis, Doug Liman, and Gene Klein.

The original ‘Suits’ ran for nine successful seasons on the USA Network from 2011 to 2019. Set in the bustling city of New York, the show followed Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a brilliant college dropout who uses his street smarts to con his way into a job working for the high-ranking attorney, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). In 2023, ‘Suits’ experienced a resurgence in popularity thanks to its arrival on Netflix, ending the year with an impressive 57.7 billion minutes of viewing, marking the highest total in one year for a streamed show in Nielsen ratings history.

‘Suits: LA’ is not a reboot or a revival of the original series. Instead, it will introduce a fresh cast of characters, mirroring the approach taken by successful spinoffs like ‘NCIS’ and ‘CSI,’ which expanded their franchises by setting new iterations in different locations. While the appearance of any familiar faces from the original ‘Suits’ in the spinoff is currently unknown, the new series promises a compelling new chapter in the ‘Suits’ universe.

‘Suits’ is available to stream on Netflix and Peacock, giving fans a chance to revisit the original series before the arrival of ‘Suits: LA’ on NBC.
