Summer Style Staples: Mango’s Latest Collection

Light-as-air linen, summer-friendly tailoring, sleek black —what do all of these warm-weather staples have in common? For one, they are the foundation of any chic summer-in-the-sun wardrobe, and two, they can all be found at Mango. A few weeks ago, I popped into the Barcelona-based brand’s Fifth Avenue New York City flagship to discover (and shop!) their latest summer capsule collection. As one of our resident shopping writers, I consider myself familiar with Mango’s chic, contemporary aesthetic, but this latest batch of summer style staples had me particularly excited and eager to check out. During my time in the Mango dressing room, I tried on everything from certified classics, like the aforementioned lightweight linen blazer, to the trending pieces of the moment. When it comes to the latter, a pair of sleek black capri pants immediately came to mind. Summer’s most-wanted accessories also took up prime real estate during my visit—think ’90s-inspired strappy heeled sandals, and mesh Mary Janes, plus a mini braided bag that truly captures that festive summer feeling.

Other pieces I wanted to try on were a modern ladylike jacket and a pair of wide-leg pinstripe pants that I see working both in the office and at the beach as a chic cover-up. The best part? All of these Mango must-haves were incredibly well-priced. Below, the best items I tried on from Mango, plus more summer fashion favorites to wear with it.

1. The Sheer Maxi Dress With a Summer-Friendly Blazer

A great maxi dress is a foundational fixture in any summer wardrobe, beloved for its practicality and polish. So it comes to no surprise that the first item I reached for upon arriving at Mango was this floral-printed, slightly sheer maxi dress. To make it a bit more workwear-appropriate, I layered in this linen suit blazer for just a touch of coverage. I see myself sporting this LWD everywhere from the office to the sea shore, perhaps with a little black slip underneath for added coverage?

2. The Light-as-Air Linen Dress With a Mesh Mary Jane

“Shockingly” another floaty white dress has been added my shopping cart. This time, it’s an asymmetrical linen one, which first caught my eye (as well the attention from several of my colleagues) earlier this season when the selection first launched. It did not disappoint. To keep things feeling fresh, I stepped into a pair of mesh Mary Janes, another seasonal trend we’ve been loving for spring and summer. That same linen blazer I tried on earlier was another key player in this look.

3. The Capri Pant With a Strappy Heeled Sandal

Earlier this spring, we declared that the iconic capri pant of the early aughts was back and better than ever. While I wasn’t quick to try out the controversial trend myself, I was pleasantly surprised (and ultimately swayed) when I slipped into this sleek black legging style from Mango. This type of cropped pant definitely needs support from a heeled sandal, and this caged-toe wedge is just the ticket. Moral of the story? Don’t be intimidated by the capri!

4. The Modern Ladylike Jacket With a Pinstripe Pant

Much to our delight, the ladylike trend is sticking around for yet another season. The centerpiece of this quietly luxurious trend is undoubtedly the prim and proper jacket, which is as charming as it is chic. Mango’s version is especially elegant, featuring modern details like a plunging neckline and double-buckle fastening. For me, it was a no brainer with wearability I could benefit from way past the summer. Styling-wise, it looked great with this pair of wide-leg pinstripe pants in a trendy buttery yellow hue.

5. The Must-Have Summer Accessory

Want to capture that festive summer feeling with just an accessory or two? Mango’s braided mini bag and black Mary Janes do just that, whether you’re toting the former to an upcoming summer soiree or slipping into the flats with a sundress on the weekend. As for me, I’ll be doing all of the above.
