Sungrow Secures 1.4 GWh Energy Storage Deal for UK’s Hams Hall Project

Sungrow, a global leader in renewable energy technology, has secured a significant 1.4 GWh energy storage supply deal for the Hams Hall project in the UK. The agreement, signed with Penso Power and BW ESS, will see Sungrow provide its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems to support the construction of this crucial energy storage facility.

The Hams Hall project, situated in central England, is strategically important in addressing the evolving needs of the UK’s power grid. The UK is witnessing a rapid increase in the integration of renewable energy sources, which brings both benefits and challenges. As renewable energy sources like solar and wind power become more prevalent, the grid’s inertia (its ability to maintain stability) and voltage stability can be compromised.

To mitigate these challenges and ensure the reliable and sustainable operation of the grid, grid-scale energy storage solutions are becoming increasingly crucial. The Hams Hall project exemplifies this trend, utilizing Sungrow’s advanced energy storage systems to bolster grid stability and resilience.

Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 systems are specifically designed for grid-forming applications. This means they can actively regulate and control the grid’s voltage and frequency, ensuring stability even during disruptions. Key features of these systems include:

*

Black Start Capability:

Enabling the systems to quickly restore power supply in the event of a power outage or disconnection of regional power sources.

*

Frequency and Voltage Control:

Providing millisecond-level inertia support and multi-tiered broadband oscillation suppression, effectively mitigating grid fluctuations.

*

Microsecond-Level Voltage Control:

Delivering rapid and precise voltage regulation, crucial for maintaining grid stability.

The implementation of 280 sets of Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 systems at Hams Hall will significantly enhance the grid’s resilience and stability. These systems will play a vital role in the UK’s ancillary service market, providing the necessary flexibility and support to ensure a smooth and reliable transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

Sungrow, with over 27 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, has established a global presence. As of June 2024, the company has installed 605 GW of power electronic converters worldwide. Sungrow is recognized as the world’s No. 1 PV inverter supplier (S&P Global Commodity Insights) and the most bankable Asian energy storage company (BloombergNEF). Its commitment to innovation and customer service extends across 170 countries, supported by a network of 490 service outlets.
