Sunil Chhetri, the iconic Indian footballer, has once again cemented his place in history by becoming the Indian Super League’s all-time leading goal scorer. In a match against Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Chhetri, playing for Bengaluru FC, calmly converted a penalty to extend his team’s lead. This goal marked his 64th in the ISL, surpassing the previous record held by Bartholomew Ogbeche.
Chhetri’s achievement comes just after his recent retirement from the Indian national team, where he amassed an impressive 94 goals in 151 appearances. Despite hanging up his international boots, Chhetri continues to be a vital asset for Bengaluru FC, consistently starting for the club.
His journey in the ISL began in 2015 with Mumbai City FC. However, he rejoined Bengaluru FC in the 2015-16 season and played a pivotal role in helping them secure promotion to the Indian top flight in 2018.
