In a statement, Narine acknowledged the public’s desire for his return but emphasized that his decision to retire is final. He stated, “I have made peace with that decision and whilst I never wish to disappoint, that door is now closed and I will be supporting the guys who take the field in June for the West Indies.”
Narine’s decision comes despite his excellent form with Kolkata Knight Riders. Batting as an opener, he has scored 286 runs, including an unbeaten century, and is also the team’s joint-leading wicket-taker with nine scalps.
West Indies skipper Rovman Powell had expressed hope that Narine would reconsider his retirement, but those efforts have been unsuccessful. Narine has represented the West Indies in 51 T20 Internationals, claiming 53 wickets with an economy rate of 6.01.
