Milan, a city steeped in centuries of fashion tradition, has seen a burgeoning of young brands in recent years. Among these, Sunnei, founded by the dynamic duo Simone Rizzo (36) and Loris Messina (35), shines brightly. Starting as a menswear label and venturing into womenswear five years ago, Sunnei recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a unique twist. Instead of the usual young models, the runway featured individuals representing a wider spectrum of ages, a powerful statement in a fashion world often obsessed with youth.
Sunnei has built a strong community, particularly among younger audiences, and this dedication to connection has been recognized. In late 2020, the brand received a €6 million investment from Hungarian group Vanguards. Their recent collection, presented in the prestigious Lia Rumma gallery, served as a tribute to the creative community that surrounds Sunnei. Featuring prints designed by Loris’ mother, Marylène Fantoni, in the 1980s, the collection explored the passage of time. It challenged the industry’s relentless pursuit of youth, emphasizing that fashion is for everyone, regardless of age. Sunnei’s message is clear: fashion is a timeless art form that transcends age, and everyone deserves to see themselves represented on the runway.
