Due to heavy rainfall, the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was canceled without a single ball being bowled. As a result, SRH has qualified for the play-offs, joining Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, who currently hold the top two positions.
SRH now has 15 points with one match remaining, while GT has been eliminated from play-off contention after their previous match was also abandoned due to rain, leaving them with 12 points from 14 matches. The rain began before the scheduled toss time of 7 pm and continued to intensify, forcing the covers to remain on and the outfield to stay wet.
Despite waiting until 10:56 PM, the cut-off time for a five-over game, the rain showed no signs of stopping, prompting officials to abandon the match. This is the second IPL game to be called off due to rain and wet outfield conditions.
The race for the remaining play-off spot is still ongoing, with four teams—Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants—still in contention. If LSG defeats Mumbai Indians on Friday, they will move to 14 points and stay in the running, but CSK will secure the spot if they beat RCB or the match is washed out on Saturday.
RCB can also qualify on the basis of net run rate if they defeat CSK by at least 18 runs or with 11 balls to spare, as they would then have 14 points, the same as DC, CSK, and LSG (if they win). Stay tuned for the latest updates on the IPL play-off race and other cricket news.
