In the aftermath of a disappointing 120-95 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinals series, the Phoenix Suns are eager to rebound and tie the series in Game 2 on Tuesday night at Target Center.
Despite winning all three regular-season meetings between the two teams, the Suns were unable to contain the Timberwolves’ potent offense and committed costly turnovers in the series opener.
Suns guard Devin Booker, a four-time All-Star, struggled to find his rhythm, scoring only 18 points on 5-of-16 shooting. Head coach Frank Vogel emphasized the need to create more open looks for Booker, who averaged 27.1 points per game during the regular season.
The Suns will also be without guard Damion Lee (knee) for Game 2, while Grayson Allen (ankle) is questionable. For the Timberwolves, forward Kyle Anderson (hip pointer) practiced on Monday but is also questionable.
In Game 1, Anthony Edwards emerged as a force for the Timberwolves, scoring 30 points in the third quarter alone. The Suns will need to find a way to limit Edwards’ production if they hope to level the series.
Both teams relied heavily on their starting lineups in Game 1, with each team playing only seven players. Stamina could become a factor in Game 2, and the Suns will need to find a way to keep up with the Timberwolves’ energy level if they want to avoid falling into a 2-0 hole.
