Supreme Court Rules on Presidential Immunity, Trump Declares ‘Big Win’ for Constitution

The Supreme Court has issued a significant ruling on presidential immunity, a decision that has sparked celebration from former President Donald Trump. The court ruled in Trump v. United States that former presidents enjoy substantial immunity from prosecution for official actions taken while in office, but not for unofficial acts. This ruling, however, leaves the precise line between official and unofficial actions for lower courts to define.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Trump touted the Supreme Court’s decision as a “big win for our Constitution and for democracy.” He expressed frustration with what he perceives as years of harassment from the Democrat Party and their allies, claiming that the court’s ruling frees him to campaign unhindered. Trump further asserted his leading position in all polls and his commitment to “make America great again.”

The Supreme Court weighed in on the issue of presidential immunity after Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, appealed to the justices concerning charges related to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s federal election interference case. Smith accused Trump of conspiracy to defraud the U.S., obstruction of justice, and related offenses, stemming from his investigation into Trump’s alleged involvement in the January 6th, 2021, Capitol breach and his efforts to interfere with the 2020 election.

Trump maintains his innocence and argued that he should be immune from prosecution for official actions taken during his presidency. Smith’s case against Trump was in limbo pending the Supreme Court’s decision. Following the interview with Fox News Digital, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to proclaim “BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND DEMOCRACY. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”
