The Supreme Court of India is set to deliver its detailed judgment today concerning the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 examination. This decision comes after the court, on July 23, rejected a plea to re-conduct the medical entrance exam due to the issue of grace marks. Today’s verdict will provide a comprehensive explanation for the court’s previous decision.
During the previous hearing, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud emphasized the significant consequences of re-conducting the exam, stating it would affect over 24 lakh students who had already taken the NEET UG test. The CJI also highlighted the disruption it would cause to the admission schedule and counselling process.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a crucial step in the ongoing investigation into the alleged NEET-UG paper leak case. On Thursday, the agency filed its first chargesheet, naming 13 individuals as accused. The CBI has indicated that it intends to file supplementary chargesheets as the investigation progresses.
On a separate but related note, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced that counselling for NEET UG will commence on August 14. NMC Secretary B Srinivas confirmed this schedule, stating that the counselling process will continue for two months and will be conducted online in four rounds.
