Supriya Sule’s Phone Hacked, Maharashtra Politics Heats Up Ahead of Assembly Elections

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule revealed on Sunday that her phone and WhatsApp account had been hacked. The Baramati legislator took to X (formerly Twitter) to inform the public, urging them to refrain from calling or texting her. She also confirmed that she had contacted the Maharashtra Police for assistance. According to NCP sources, a police complaint regarding the hacking incident was filed online. Sule’s post read, “Urgent: My phone and WhatsApp have been hacked. Please do not call or text me. I have reached out to the police for help.”

Meanwhile, amidst the political turmoil in Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar instructed party functionaries from the Baramati assembly constituency to submit their resignations. This move comes as a response to the underwhelming performance of the NCP in the Lok Sabha elections, prompting a potential organizational restructuring ahead of the crucial Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled for later this year. Notably, Ajit Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, lost the Lok Sabha polls from Baramati to incumbent MP Supriya Sule.

Adding to the political drama, Prahar Janshakti Party (PJP) president and MLA Omprakash alias Bacchu Kadu, an ally of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, met with NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Pune on Saturday. The PJP is a member of the Mahayuti alliance, which includes Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, the BJP, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP. Following the meeting, Kadu announced his intention to decide on September 1st whether to remain with the Mahayuti or sever ties with the alliance.

Despite their differing political ideologies, NCP MP Supriya Sule praised Bacchu Kadu for his work advocating for people with disabilities. She expressed optimism that all parties would come together for the betterment of the state. The elections for Maharashtra’s 288-member legislative Assembly are expected to take place in October 2024.
