Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) has confirmed she will write in Nikki Haley’s name on her ballot for the upcoming presidential election, despite Haley dropping out of the Republican primary race. Collins’ office confirmed to Fox News Digital her plan to vote for Haley, reiterating her previous support for the former U.N. Ambassador.
Collins previously endorsed Haley, praising her qualifications and leadership abilities. “She has the energy, intellect and temperament that we need to lead our country in these very tumultuous times,” Collins said of Haley in March. Despite Haley exiting the race, Collins’ position remains unchanged.
“I will not be voting for either candidate. I am going to write in Nikki Haley’s name,” Collins said, according to a local outlet.
Collins’ decision comes as she remains critical of former President Trump, whom she voted to convict on impeachment charges. “I cannot support former President Trump. I voted to convict him on the second impeachment charges, so I don’t think it should come as a surprise that I cannot support him,” she said in March.
While Trump has emerged as the clear Republican nominee, it appears Collins’ stance on the election remains firm. Her decision highlights the ongoing divisions within the Republican party and the diverse range of opinions among voters.
The 2024 presidential election continues to be a focal point for political discourse, with various candidates vying for the White House. As the race progresses, it will be interesting to see how voters respond to the evolving landscape and the choices presented by each candidate.
