Suspect Arrested Following Break-In at LA Mayor Karen Bass’s Home

On Sunday morning, police in Los Angeles arrested a suspect following a break-in at the home of Mayor Karen Bass.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the suspect gained entry into Getty House, the mayor’s official residence, by smashing a window around 6:40 AM. Bass and her family were present at the time, but they were not harmed.

The LAPD responded to the incident and took the suspect into custody without incident. Mayor Bass and her family were not injured, and they are safe. Bass’s office expressed gratitude to the LAPD for their swift response and apprehending the suspect.

The LAPD has not released the name or other information about the suspect at this time. They also confirmed that an investigation into the break-in is ongoing.

Karen Bass, a Democratic member of Congress from 2011 to 2022, was elected the 43rd mayor of Los Angeles in 2022. She is the first woman and second Black person to hold this office, after former Mayor Tom Bradley, who served from 1973 to 1993.
