A foul odor emanating from the second floor of a Chapman Street apartment in Greenfield on Monday night led to the discovery of an unidentified dead man, authorities explained Tuesday. Police were called due to the reported odor and found the dead man inside with nobody else inside the apartment, according to a statement by the Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan’s Office.
Authorities believe the death is a homicide. The former tenant of the apartment was arrested Tuesday at an airport in New York as a suspect wanted for murder by Massachusetts State Police in connection with the death in Greenfield, the district attorney’s office said Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been released at this time.
