A serious car accident involving five Swartz Creek High School students occurred near Morrish Elementary on Tuesday, April 23. According to Superintendent Rodney Hetherton, one student sustained critical injuries, while the other four were in stable condition. The students were returning from the Genesee Career Institute when the rollover crash took place around 11 a.m. The vehicle involved lost control while crossing Linden Road and rolled over, ejecting three occupants. The school district initiated a gift card drive to assist the families who will be spending extended periods at the hospital during their recovery. Gift cards to local gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants are being collected at Swartz Creek High School from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays until May 8. On April 24, therapy dogs from Mid-Michigan Therapy Dogs, Inc. provided emotional support to staff and students. The Metro Police Authority of Genesee County continues to investigate the accident.
