Sweden and Denmark have announced their joint bid to host the 2029 Women’s European Championship, aiming to create a historic tournament. The two federations, the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) and the Danish Football Association (DBU), have officially informed UEFA of their intention to work together. Their vision? To organize “the biggest ever Women’s European Championship” and make it the most well-attended in history.
This ambitious goal is fueled by a desire to inspire more girls to take up football. “We know how much it means to be involved in organizing championships, not least in order to inspire and encourage more girls to take up football,” said Fredrik Reinfeldt, president of SvFF. The two nations have a rich history with the Women’s Euros. Denmark hosted the tournament in 1991, while Sweden hosted it twice, first alongside Norway in 1997 and then solo in 2013.
The preparation for the bid is already in full swing, with both countries working on securing potential host cities. This joint bid comes after Germany’s Football Association (DFB) announced their own bid in the previous week, and Portugal’s Football Federation (FPF) declared their intention to host the tournament earlier in September. UEFA will announce the winning bid in December 2025. The next Women’s Euros, scheduled for 2025, will be held in Switzerland.
