Swiss Army Knife to Lose Iconic Blade Feature: Victorinox Announces Major Transformation

Swiss maker Victorinox is introducing a major change to the iconic Swiss Army Knife. The renowned multi-tool, known for its versatility and functionality, is undergoing a transformation that will see a key feature excluded: the blade. According to CNN, a Victorinox spokesperson stated that the company is in the early stages of developing pocket tools without blades. The company believes this new innovation will complement the existing ones, acknowledging the demand for the Swiss Army Knife’s functionality, versatility, and craftsmanship in more specialized fields and situations.

In 2012, Victorinox CEO Carl Elsener Jr. expressed concerns about stricter regulations against knives. Elsener noted that in some countries, knives are viewed more as weapons than tools. He cited examples such as England and certain Asian countries, where carrying a knife is restricted unless necessary for work or outdoor activities. He also mentioned the limitations on pocket knives in schools, shopping malls, and cinemas.

Elsener emphasized the value of the Swiss pocket knife, stating that it provides peace of mind and preparedness for everyday challenges. He highlighted the global success of the Swiss Army Knife, with over 500 million units sold worldwide. Elsener shared anecdotes of its usage in extreme environments such as the North Pole, South Pole, Mount Everest, and even space.

Victorinox has not yet announced a specific release date for the new blade-less pocket tool. The company remains committed to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of its consumers.
