Swiss extreme athlete Andre Belibi has etched his name in the Guinness World Record books by spending an astonishing four hours and six minutes submerged in an ice bath at the Calgary Marathon Runner’s Expo in Stampede Park. This achievement surpassed the previous record of four hours and two minutes, showcasing Belibi’s exceptional endurance and mental fortitude.
Belibi embarked on a rigorous training regimen that spanned over two years to prepare for this daunting challenge. He emphasized the crucial role of mental conditioning, breathing exercises, and meditation in enabling him to withstand the extreme cold.
During the world record attempt, Belibi adopted a strategic approach of breaking the ordeal down into smaller milestones, focusing on one hour or 30 minutes at a time. This technique allowed him to maintain concentration and push through the discomfort.
An EMS team diligently monitored Belibi’s well-being throughout the attempt, ensuring his safety and tracking his vital signs. After completing the record-breaking feat, Belibi was carefully removed from the ice bath and wrapped in blankets before being transported to an awaiting ambulance for further medical attention.
Belibi’s remarkable accomplishment stands as a testament to his unwavering determination and the incredible limits of human endurance. This extreme athlete has previously tested his boundaries in ultra-marathons and cross-country runs across America and Africa. With this latest achievement, Belibi not only set a new Guinness World Record but also used this platform to raise funds for Autism Canada, a cause close to his heart.
