Swissport Basel is set to unveil its groundbreaking ‘cool+connect’ terminal on June 27, 2024. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to revolutionize the handling of pharmaceuticals and other temperature-sensitive goods, ensuring their preservation during transport. The ‘cool+connect’ terminal boasts a unique design that consolidates shipments from a single supplier into one truck, eliminating the need for external transportation and significantly reducing handling time. This innovative approach leads to a remarkable 70% decrease in carbon emissions, shortening the handling process from 4.5 hours to a mere 1.5 hours.
The ‘cool+connect’ terminal underscores Swissport’s commitment to leadership in managing temperature-sensitive cargo at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse. Andreas Behnke, Station Manager Basel, and member of the Swissport Global Cargo committee, stated, “‘cool+connect’ is the first of its kind and we are proud to offer this innovation to our customers at EuroAirport. The cool chain infrastructure for pharmaceutical centers with many refrigerated containers meets a global need in the logistics industry. Swissport offers a proven, standardized terminal for airlines, logistics providers and airports to outsource business-critical operations.”
Swissport is poised to introduce its ‘cool+connect’ infrastructure to a global audience, alongside its expanding network of IATA CEIV Pharma-certified cargo warehouses for pharmaceutical logistics. The company is actively pursuing CEIV certification across its network, with plans underway for Geneva, Switzerland, and Hamburg, Germany. In the United States, Swissport is diligently pursuing certification at major pharmaceutical hubs like Miami International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, emphasizing its dedication to handling pharmaceutical goods with the highest standards.
At EuroAirport Basel, Swissport’s modern cargo warehouse features an IATA CEIV-certified Swissport Pharma Center, specifically optimized for the efficient handling of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. Swissport plays a pivotal role in the temperature-sensitive air cargo supply chain, widely recognized for its expertise in pharmaceutical logistics. In 2023 alone, Swissport Cargo in Basel managed 43,000 tons of freight across 1,875 flights, with the support of a dedicated team of 105 staff members.
