Sydney’s specialist business events bidding company, BESydney, announced its growing forward global business event pipeline at IMEX in Frankfurt, Germany. This development reinforces Sydney’s status as the world’s preferred Australian host city and the top Australian city in the APAC region. BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, revealed that the city has secured 103 business events, expected to generate over $507 million in direct expenditure for the local economy between now and 2030. These events will attract around 128,000 delegates, significantly boosting the local visitor economy. The conference programming will provide Australians access to cutting-edge practices and insights in AI, biodiversity, education, engineering, defense and aerospace, critical minerals, and health, along with addressing social issues such as gender-based violence and aging. Sydney’s strong pipeline follows a successful 2023 for business events. The city was re-confirmed as Australia’s leading business event host city, securing 25th place in the worldwide ICCA city rankings and ranking 6th (ICCA) and 3rd (CVENT) in the Asia Pacific region. Highlight events from the pipeline include the Global Health Security conference (2024), International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine World Congress (2024), ACM The Web Conference (2025), and the International Astronautical Congress (2025), among others. Lyn Lewis-Smith noted, ‘We’ve seen fantastic market turnaround from the Corporate Meetings and Incentive side of our business, with global corporations choosing Sydney to rebuild corporate culture, drive innovation, educate, incentivize, and inspire their top talent.’ A key asset in BESydney’s bidding strategy is the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), in partnership with ASM Global’s experienced venue management team. ICC Sydney CEO Geoff Donaghy highlighted the center’s success in delivering trusted event services while driving significant social and economic legacies. Tourism Australia celebrated the ICCA 2023 rankings, with Australia moving up to 13th place globally and maintaining 3rd in the APAC region. Tourism Australia Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison, emphasized the importance of the Business Events Bid Fund Program in supporting Australian destinations and building a strong pipeline of future international business events.
