T20 World Cup 2024: Sehwag’s Playing XI for India, Surprises Galore

Virendra Sehwag Announces Playing XI for India for T20 World Cup 2024

Former Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag has revealed his playing XI for the Indian cricket team ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Sehwag’s picks raised eyebrows, as he omitted all-rounder Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Ravichandran Ashwin from his lineup.

Sehwag’s preferred XI includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Rinku Singh or Shivam Dube, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Sandeep Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Hardik Pandya Omitted, Pant Included

Notably, Sehwag left out Hardik Pandya, an integral part of India’s recent limited-overs success. While he acknowledged that Pandya is likely to be included in the final 15-man squad, he did not envision him as a starter.

However, Sehwag included wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, despite his recent struggles with consistency. He also opted for young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and experienced pacer Sandeep Sharma as surprise selections.

Irfan Pathan’s 15-Man Squad

Another former Indian cricketer, Irfan Pathan, also unveiled his 15-player list for the T20 World Cup. Pathan included Pandya in his squad but emphasized that the all-rounder must regularly bowl to earn a spot in the playing XI.

Pathan’s list excluded KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, and Tilak Varma.

BCCI Selection Committee Meeting

The BCCI selection committee is expected to meet Indian skipper Rohit Sharma after the DC vs MI IPL 2024 match on April 27th. The squad announcement is anticipated soon after, with the ICC setting May 1st as the deadline.
