Abandoned Cement Mixers Cause Havoc in Perungudi, Chennai

Despite the Chennai Corporation’s efforts to remove abandoned vehicles, a cluster of cement mixers near Perungudi Lake in Chennai are causing significant problems for residents, pedestrians, and even local flora. The vehicles, illegally parked for months, obstruct footpaths, create noise pollution, and damage newly planted saplings. Local residents are demanding action from authorities to clear the area and make it pedestrian-friendly, especially with the upcoming lakefront project.

Chennai Corporation to Auction Abandoned Vehicles After Six Years

The Greater Chennai Corporation will auction over 1,000 abandoned vehicles after a six-year hiatus. The vehicles, mostly unusable and sold for scrap or spare parts, will be auctioned through the Metal Scrap Trade Corporation Limited’s e-auction portal. The corporation expects to generate revenue from the auction, which will be shared between the traffic police and GCC.
