Bechtel, in partnership with TerraPower, has commenced the groundbreaking of the Natrium Demonstration Project. This groundbreaking project is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program and is set to bring forth a commercial, advanced nuclear reactor that will deliver clean, reliable power to the electrical grid. The Natrium reactor employs a distinctive sodium-based technology for reactor cooling, providing a clean, baseload operation at 345 megawatts with the capacity to flex up to 500 megawatts, sufficient to power 400,000 homes. Bechtel, with its extensive experience in nuclear energy spanning over 70 years, has been involved in the design, construction, or provision of construction services for 150 nuclear plants worldwide, contributing over 76,000 megawatts of new nuclear generation capacity globally.
