Niagara Man Arrested in Connection to Peterborough Shooting and Assault

A 25-year-old Niagara man has been arrested in connection to a shooting and assault that occurred in Peterborough, Ontario.

On November 24, 2023, a 28-year-old man was dropped off at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre with a gunshot wound. A second 28-year-old man was also taken to the hospital later that day with undisclosed injuries. An investigation led to an arrest at a residence in Peterborough at the time, and police were seeking another suspect.

On January 9, 2024, officers responded to an assault at a residence where a man sustained a serious head injury. A suspect was identified in the case.

A four-month investigation culminated in a search warrant being executed at a residence in Thorold, Ontario, leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old Niagara man for both incidents.

The man has been charged with aggravated assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and other weapons-related offenses in connection with the November 24 shooting. For the January 9 assault, he faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Peterborough for both incidents on Friday.

The Saskatoon Police Major Crime Section is investigating the city’s ninth homicide of 2024. The victim, a 30-year-old man, was initially transported to the hospital after an aggravated assault on April 15 but succumbed to his injuries this week. The incident occurred at a residence on Chandler Place. Witnesses reported an altercation outside another residence on the block. The school was placed on temporary lockdown while police and medical personnel responded to the scene. The victim was released from the hospital and is recovering at home, while the 13-year-old suspect is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault.
