The ongoing military operation, which began nearly two weeks ago, has forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes and disrupted aid deliveries, raising concerns about famine.
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility for attacks on two US vessels in the Gulf of Aden and an Israeli ship in the Indian Ocean. The attacks come in response to airstrikes by the US and UK on Houthi positions, as well as Israel’s retaliatory strikes in Gaza. The US has confirmed the attacks and said that coalition forces have shot down several drones and an anti-ship missile launched by the Houthis. The attacks have disrupted shipping in the Red Sea region, forcing some ships to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope.
A memorial service will be held at the National Cathedral in Washington on Thursday to honor the seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza earlier this month. The service will include speeches from celebrity chef and philanthropist José Andrés, founder and executive director of WCK, and renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Senior Biden administration officials, including Douglas Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, and Assistant Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, will also attend the service.

Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel on Monday evening, triggering sirens in Safed and nearby towns. The IDF responded with artillery strikes on launch sites and airstrikes on three Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. The attacks came after a Hezbollah missile downed an Israeli drone over southern Lebanon earlier in the day. Since October 8, Hezbollah and allied terror groups have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border daily.
The Russia-appointed Donetsk chief alleges that Ukrainian troops are retreating from the settlement of Ocheretyne in small groups while Moscow’s forces continue airstrikes. The evacuation follows the destruction of a group of Ukrainian fighters by Russian forces.
