Alaska Airlines is expanding its international service this winter with new nonstop routes to La Paz and Monterrey in Mexico. Starting in November 2024, the airline will be the sole U.S. carrier offering direct flights from Los Angeles to La Paz, a coastal gem in Baja California Sur. In February 2025, Alaska Airlines will launch daily nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Monterrey, Mexico’s bustling industrial and cultural hub. These new routes provide travelers with more options for warm-weather getaways and showcase the unique experiences offered by both destinations.

Alaska Airlines’ Fallen Soldier Program is a poignant initiative that ensures fallen military service members receive the utmost dignity and reverence during their final journey home. With specially customized carts strategically positioned at airports nationwide, military remains are transported with the utmost respect and care. The program, initiated in 2011, has delivered 15 carts to airports across the nation, with another set for Nashville International Airport in late June. Alaska Airlines has reintroduced hot meals to its Main Cabin retail menu, powered by its leading pre-order program. Guests in Premium Class and Main Cabin on most flights over 1,100 miles can now select from up to five chef-designed dishes, including at least one hot meal. The new menu is the result of collaboration between Alaska Airlines’ Food & Beverage teams and renowned Chef Tony Wright. Prior to the launch, Alaska Airlines employees sampled the new meal options and provided positive feedback. The hot meals are exclusively available through pre-order and are all priced between $8 and $11.50.

Alaska Airlines has launched a new initiative allowing guests to purchase Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) credits during the booking process, empowering them to proactively reduce the environmental impact of their journeys. Guests can now contribute 5%, 10%, or 20% of their carbon footprint to support SAF, a certified fuel endorsed by IATA that has the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions. Mileage Plan members who opt for SAF credits will earn elite-qualifying miles (EQMs) for their contributions, providing a sustainability-driven pathway to elite status.

Growing up, Mohammed Hakeem’s fascination with aviation took flight during family trips. Despite childhood naysayers, his dream never faltered. In 2017, he joined Alaska Airlines as a customer service agent, quickly rising through the ranks before transitioning to a flight attendant role. However, his ambition to pilot aircraft persisted, driven by the desire to honor his parents’ sacrifices and inspire others like him. Mohammed applied to Alaska Airlines’ Ascend Academy in 2023 and is currently dedicated to completing his training with unwavering belief in himself. In the meantime, Alaska Air Group recognizes the contributions of seasoned aviators like Captain Julie Thiele, Captain Geoff Nelson, and Captain Rich Loudon, highlighting the airline’s commitment to excellence, diversity, and the pursuit of aspirations.
