Amarnath Yatra Begins: ‘Pratham Puja’ Marks Start of Pilgrimage

The Amarnath Yatra, a significant pilgrimage for Hindu devotees, officially commenced on June 29th with the ‘Pratham Puja’ ceremony. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha virtually participated in the puja, expressing his support for the sacred journey. Security forces have heightened measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims, with police reviewing arrangements and implementing cut-off timings for smooth travel. The pilgrimage, which ends on August 19th, involves a challenging trek to the Amarnath cave shrine where devotees offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

Heightened Security in Jammu and Kashmir Following Terrorist Attacks

In response to recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have launched a major search operation to neutralize terrorists. The operation, which has been ongoing since June 13, has resulted in the killing of two suspected Pakistani terrorists and a CRPF jawan. A large quantity of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the slain terrorists. Security has been beefed up at Jammu Railway Station ahead of the Amarnath yatra, which is set to begin on June 29. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed officials to deploy the “full spectrum of counter-terror capabilities” to address the situation. Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has criticized the Modi government’s handling of the terrorist attacks, accusing it of playing politics with terror.
