On Wednesday, the ongoing farmers’ protest at Shambhu railway station on the Ambala-Ludhiana rail line entered its eighth day, disrupting railway traffic. According to the Ambala division of Northern Railways, 149 trains were affected, including 75 cancellations, 64 diversions, and 10 short terminations or origins. This brings the total number of trains cancelled or diverted due to the protest to 1139. The disruption has impacted the Ambala cloth market, as traders face difficulties in transporting goods by rail. The protest, demanding the release of three farm activists, has seen farmers blocking the railway lines and raising slogans against the government. Farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher addressed the protesters, calling for large gatherings on the 100th day of the protest and demanding immediate compensation for crop losses due to rain and hailstorms.
