Lok Sabha Elections: ‘Soujanya’ and ‘Subhechchha’ Enter Fray as Dev Takes Dig at BJP’s Malviya

Days before the high-voltage Lok Sabha elections, a war of words over the words ‘soujanya’ and ‘subhechchha’ has erupted in West Bengal between Trinamool Congress candidate Deepak Dev and BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya. Dev has accused Malviya of misinterpreting the two words and has asked Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar to educate his party functionaries on their meaning. The exchange started when Dev, at a poll rally in Raiganj on Tuesday, extended good wishes to Majumdar, the BJP’s Balurghat candidate, for the upcoming polls. However, Malviya misinterpreted Dev’s words as a congratulatory message for Majumdar’s presumed victory.
Dev has since taken to social media to urge Majumdar to teach Malviya the correct meaning of the two words in Bengali, which also have identical meanings in Hindi. Dev has clarified that his well wishes extended to Majumdar and his party workers did not imply any prediction of victory.
The incident has added a touch of humor to the intense election campaign in West Bengal, where both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters.

The debate over inheritance tax has resurfaced in India ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with both the Congress and the BJP accusing each other of supporting the idea in the past. Meanwhile, Telangana Congress spokesperson Asma tweeted a screenshot of the tweet, claiming that the BJP had unsuccessfully tried to erase the evidence. The controversy comes amid a broader debate over the need for inheritance tax in India, with some arguing that it could help reduce inequality and increase revenue for government spending. However, others argue that it would be a burden on families and discourage savings and investment.
