State Senator Janet Nguyen has introduced two bills aiming to improve animal shelter management, transparency, and animal welfare. One bill focuses on increasing transparency by requiring public animal shelters in large counties to report monthly data on intakes, outtakes, euthanasia, and natural deaths. It also supports Trap, Neuter, and Release (TNR) programs for feral cats. The second bill establishes guidelines for veterinarian notations on animal medical charts, including pain control, trauma mitigation, and treatment instructions. Nguyen emphasizes the importance of accountability and access to information for animal shelters, highlighting the need to adopt as many pets as possible.
