The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been using the late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s legacy as a key issue in its campaign vocabulary in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Top party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have invoked the dreaded days of Ansari’s mafia raj to unite upper caste votes in the region. The BJP’s strategy involves highlighting the conflict between Ansari and other slain gangsters from upper caste communities, playing on fears of security and maintaining law and order.

YSRCP Leader Dola Jagan Mohana Rao Joins TDP in Andhra Pradesh

Dola Jagan Mohana Rao, a senior leader of the YSRCP, has joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the presence of its national president, N. Chandrababu Naidu. Rao’s father, Dola Sitaramulu, was an MLA in the Narasannapeta Assembly constituency from 1978 to 1983. Jagan Mohana Rao, after four decades with the Congress, joined the YSRCP a few years after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. He contested from Narasannapeta when he was the president of the Srikakulam District Congress Committee.
