A Good Samaritan’s car was stolen by suspected auto thieves after they stopped to offer help at the scene of a crash on Highway 400 Tuesday morning. Police said the collision involved two tractor trailers and a stolen pickup truck, which was reportedly driving erratically. The Good Samaritan saw the collision and stopped to help, but the occupants of the stolen pickup then stole their car, a grey Honda Fit, and fled the scene.
A Delhi-registered car’s engine was stolen overnight, leaving only a hollow space in the bonnet. The incident was captured on video and shared on Reddit, highlighting the audacity of thieves in the national capital. Despite the car being parked on the road, the thieves managed to remove multiple parts, including the engine and battery, without causing any disturbance or attracting attention.
Ontario has announced a series of tough new measures for impaired drivers, including lifetime driving bans and mandatory ignition interlock devices. The province said that one in three road deaths in Ontario involves impaired driving, and a 2022 study found that one in five drivers stopped were under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both. According to the government, its proposed legislation would also increase immediate roadside license suspensions for first and second-time alcohol and drug-related offenses and clarify the rules allowing police to stop vehicles for sobriety tests.
