On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, numerous devotees visited the Ram Mandir temple in Ayodhya on May 23. Additionally, videos shared by news agencies captured devotees taking sacred dips in the River Ganga in Prayagraj and the River Yamuna in Haridwar. Buddha Purnima, also known as Buddha Jayanti or Vesak, is an annual celebration held on the first full moon of the Vaishakha month in the Hindu calendar. This auspicious day marks the birth of Lord Gautam Buddha, who was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini, present-day Nepal, around 563 BC.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) of plotting to demolish the Ram temple in Ayodhya if they are elected to power. Addressing a rally in Barabanki, Modi said that the opposition parties have disrespected the deity Ram Lalla for decades and have tried to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision on the temple’s construction. He further alleged that SP and Congress plan to send Ram Lalla back to a tent and bulldoze the temple.

A delegation of 200 Sindhi community members from Pakistan arrived in Ayodhya on Friday to pay respects to Ram Lalla. The group, from Pakistan’s Sindh province, is on a month-long religious tour of India and will travel to Ayodhya by road from Prayagraj. A delegation of 150 Sindhi community members from India is also accompanying them.

President Droupadi Murmu paid obeisance and performed ‘aarti’ at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday. She also took part in the Sarayu ‘aarti’ and performed puja at the Hanumangarhi temple. This was Murmu’s first visit to Ayodhya since the consecration ceremony of the newly-built Ram temple on January 22.
