The man was previously fined by police but later learned of his condition, which was confirmed by independent medical examinations. The judge emphasized that the defendant did not experience typical symptoms of intoxication. While people with auto-brewery syndrome produce the same type of alcohol as that found in alcoholic drinks, they generally feel less of its effects.
