Kolkata Passport Office to Hold Adalat for Backlogged Applications

The Kolkata regional passport office will hold a passport adalat on May 1 to clear a significant backlog of passport applications processed through post office passport seva kendras (PoPSKs). Due to a lack of net connectivity, PoPSKs handle applications offline, resulting in an accumulation of cases. The adalat will address 800 applications with insufficient documentation, and applicants must present themselves with the required documents. Failure to do so will result in the closure of their applications. Bengal has the highest number of PoPSKs in India, and the pending cases have reached 20,000. To mitigate this, the office has implemented a pendency reduction drive on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with 200 slots available each day.
