Bengaluru Drowns in Heavy Rains: Flooding, Traffic Chaos, and Outrage Over Infrastructure

Bengaluru is facing severe flooding and waterlogging due to incessant rainfall in the past few days. Residents are expressing their frustration over the city’s inadequate infrastructure, particularly the poor road conditions and drainage systems. The situation has caused major disruptions to daily life, with traffic snarled and flights delayed at Kempegowda International Airport. The IMD predicts continued rainfall in the city until October 25.

Bengaluru Braces for More Rains as IMD Predicts Continued Showers, Heavy Rains Hit Other Karnataka Districts

Bengaluru is expected to experience more rain today, October 22, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms. While schools and Anganwadis in the city were closed yesterday due to heavy rains, there is no such announcement today. Meanwhile, other parts of Karnataka are facing heavier rainfall, with isolated heavy rain predicted in Udupi, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Chikballapura, and Kolar districts. The IMD has also issued warnings for heavy rains in Odisha and West Bengal due to the approaching Cyclone Dana.

Bengaluru Rains: After Water Crisis, City Witnesses Heavy Rainfall, Waterlogging

After facing a severe water crisis, Bengaluru experienced heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hailstorms on Monday. The downpour led to fallen trees, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions in multiple areas. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Centre (KSNDC) issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, while several locations reported water accumulation, including Hebbal flyover, Maharani underpass, and Nagawara. Tree felling incidents were reported across the city, and an electric pole breakdown at Hennur Main Road further worsened traffic. Despite the heavy rains, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath stated that desilting work in the stormwater drainage system will be completed by May 20. The Karnataka Weather reported hailstorm activity in the southwest and intense rains in various parts of Bengaluru, prompting residents to stay indoors. The Meteorological Department predicted partly cloudy skies with intermittent rain or thundershowers until May 12.
