Oklahoma AG ‘Happy to Fight’ Against Biden Admin Lawsuit Over Anti-Illegal Immigration Law

Oklahoma’s attorney general is opposing a lawsuit from the Biden administration over its anti-illegal immigration law, expressing confidence in the bill’s legality and willingness to fight the administration’s challenge. The lawsuit targets HB 4156, which criminalizes unlawful presence in the state and empowers local law enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants and demand their departure within 72 hours of conviction or release. Despite the DOJ’s argument that the law intrudes on federal immigration authority, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond maintains that the state has been facing an influx of illegal immigrants involved in criminal activities such as drug trafficking and human smuggling. Drummond emphasizes that the law aims to combat organized crime within Oklahoma and is not intended to deport individuals.
