Following a massive dust storm accompanied by heavy rainfall on Monday, Mumbai Nowcast has issued a thunderstorm alert for Tuesday. The alert covers Central Mumbai, Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Badlapur. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted continued rainfall in Mumbai until May 18, along with isolated heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds. The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow’ alert for Thane and Raigad districts, warning of thunderstorms and winds of 30-40 kmph. The death toll from the Mumbai billboard collapse has risen to 14, leading to the arrest of the company’s director. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is removing illegal hoardings from the city and has issued notices to Ego Media, the company responsible for the collapsed hoarding, to remove its other structures.
